Well, it’s been a year since my last post. I had originally intended to only take a few weeks, maybe months, away from the blog while I sorted out my life. We (Oren and I) had just moved to the Seattle area from Los Angeles a few months before, were at a crossroads with housing (whether to rent an apartment, try to buy, put our stuff in storage while we traveled a bit, etc.), I was still deciding what to do job-wise, we had a wedding to plan, and we were still getting used to our new city.
Needless to say, I felt a bit overwhelmed by everything going on and couldn’t give Gild Society the attention I wanted to. Instead of writing with my heart halfway in it, I took a hiatus that ended up lasting longer than anticipated. I had to do a double-take when I saw when my last post was written; so much has changed since then.
Here’s a little bit of what’s been taking over my life, the short version 🙂
We Moved… THREE Times
Oren and I were pretty set on buying a house, but weren’t sure how long the process would take. The Seattle housing market is ridiculously competitive right now, so we were lucky to have a family friend to rent an apartment from. Once I got a job downtown, I rented another place closer to work.
I Got a New Job
After going back and forth about what my next move was going to be, I decided to try getting a job at one of Seattle’s well-known companies. It must have been in the cards for me because I got an awesome job pretty soon after we got settled.
I Went to Bimini and Swam With Dolphins
My mom and I went on a trip together to the Bahamas on an amazing retreat that explored the human-dolphin connection. It was a very spiritual experience as we rode a boat out daily to find wild dolphins, but it was entirely up to them if they wanted to interact with us. Four out of the five days we went out, pods of wild dolphins swam all around us; it was incredible. I’ll write a post about this trip later.
We Bought a House
After making our first offer on a house and losing big time (there were 33 bids on it, so realistically we never had a chance haha!), we were a little nervous about how competitive the housing market was. Somehow we lucked out and found a cute little house after looking for a few weeks that was perfect for us – about 20 minutes from downtown Seattle, plenty of space, a big backyard, a fireplace, wooden floors, so much parking space (which is HUGE if you’re coming from LA), a garden, trees, trees, and more trees. We’re still making it “home,” but it’s been such a fun experience.
We Got Married!
Last but not least, we got married in July 🙂 Neither of us were really big on weddings, but we knew we wanted to celebrate it in a way that made sense for us. Our amazing friends and family helped us create such a special day and it was definitely one to remember.
So, What’s Next?
Well, I’m still wondering that myself. I finally have room to breathe, as the past 12 months have probably been the most chaotic of my life. We have a few trips lined up: a mountain resort in Arkansas, most likely Chicago and Denver, Park City, Paris, Amsterdam, Venice, and more in the works. So, there will definitely be more travel!
I’m also working on weaving in other passions of mine into the blog – still building on my love of travel, adventure and culture, but incorporating other lifestyle, DIY, and creative elements. It’s a work in progress, as most things are, but will all come together when it’s meant to 😉
In the meantime, it’s good to be back and I can’t wait to share new ideas, photos, projects and adventures with you guys!
